Honesty is rarely glittering, it touches us slowly but deeply.
Taverna del Capitano is all about honesty and authenticity. It is a real family restaurant with a Michelin star, located at the sea of Nerano which is also its main source of inspiration. The magician in the kitchen is Alfonso Caputo with his mother Grazia, also Alfonso’s son is already helping them. Front of the house is managed by Alfonso’s sister Mariella, who is also sommelier, and Claudio, her husband, who is in charge as restaurant manager. They are assisted by their daughter. All of them are guided by passion and cordiality which are deeply rooted in the entire family.

Ingredients they use come from the local farmers, their main ingredients – those from the sea – are delivered more than once a day directly to the pier in front of the restaurant by fishermen who are fishing specially for Taverna del Capitano (read more about it here). Actually, when enjoying your lunch or dinner you may have the pleasure of watching the fishermen’s boats in front of you!
The dishes at Taverna are bold, pure, real – a journey of flavours created day by day depending on the catch. Alfonso doesn’t follow trends and he is not overwhelmed by his ego – he is humbly and masterfully treating the best local products with a great respect and knowledge creating a cuisine which is one of the most honest and delightful cuisines of the region. I will never forget the delicious palamita cooked on the hot stone in front of me. Raw inside and lightly burnt outside it exalted all the best of this delicious fish. Spaghetti alla Nerano, a sinfully creamy dish created with zucchini and cheese. And the perfumes of costiera – a journey of citrus fruits which so beautifully concludes the unforgettable meal.
