Bilbao: Pintxos with Josean Alija

The best local guide, Josean Alija, the chef patron of the restaurant Nerua in Bilbao

If you are heading the Bizkaia, you can’t miss the pintxos experience. Pintxos, delicious sharing plates, are all about socialising while enjoying food and discovering the city. It’s fun and deliciousness, so bring your best mood with you and open yourself to an adventure. Make a stroll through the streets of Bilbao with stops at some of the best pintxos bars. Pintxos are best enjoyed with the local txakoli wine or some lovely rioja, but locals enjoy them also with beer or with a vermouth based cocktail.

We had the best possible local guide – Josean Alija, chef patron of the Michelin starred Nerua – and I hope the list below, which includes Josean’s favourite pintxos bars, will give you as much pleasure on your next visit to Bilbao, as it gave to us. Enjoy!

When we thought we were already too full to eat anything else, patatas bravas appeared and they were so delicious that we couldn’t stop eating them!

Now go and make your own discoveries!  Bilbao is a lovely city and this pintxos tour is a wonderful way to explore it, have fun, meet people (Basque people are really fantastic!) and have some lovely eats and drinks on the way.
